Workflow management

Workflow management is used to automate the work processes supported by IT systems. It includes the analysis and planning as well as the execution and control of the processes, the so-called workflow.

A workflow or work process designates an IT-supported, defined and structured sequence of operations within an organization.  This could be, for instance, business processes where certain employees perform a sequence of activities within a defined order. The beginning and the end of a workflow are defined as well as the process. It is important to check a workflow for possible improvements and to ask if it can really be effectively implemented in practice.

So-called workflow management systems, controlling structured workflows, can be used in workflow management. The primary goal of using them is the standardization and the optimization of processes through time savings and greater transparency.
